CUCKOO CLOCKS

This Bavarian Forest German cuckoo clock features the traditional German activity of volksmarching. Volksmarching is a recreational activity where participants typically walk 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) on an outdoor path. It is usual to see a volksmarcher carrying a boda bag full of wine or water and our Volksmarcher is no exception as he has his boda bag thrown over his shoulder and a walking staff in hand to assist him on the outdoor trail. This chalet style one day musical cuckoo clock has a well with a water wheel and on the second story balcony a group of hand-carved dancers are poised ready to dance to traditional German folk tunes. This music alternates between Edelweiss or The Happy Wanderer. The action begins at the top of each hour and on the half hour when the cuckoo bird emerges from his hiding spot near the top of the chalet. The cuckoo sings out a distinctive cuckoo sound, one for each hour of the day, and one for each half hour. While the cuckoo bird sing its song, the Volksmarcher resumes his hike moving his walking staff up and down. Once the cuckoo call is completed, the music starts and the dancers begin spinning on the balcony above as the water wheel begins to rotate.

A hand-carved pendulum hangs below the clock continuously swinging back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. This cuckoo clock is powered by a Regula 30 hour all brass clock movement which is made in the Black Forest of Germany. The clock features the traditional brass pinecone weights hanging beneath the clock on brass chains. The clock is wound by raising the weights beneath the clock on its brass chains. One brass pine cone weight powers the cuckoo and cuckoo call time, one pine cone weight powers the music and moving figures while the other pinecone weight powers the time. The clock dial and hands are made of wood with roman numerals marking the time. The musical and cuckoo bird sounds can be turned on and off by a switch located at the base of the clock.

However, as with any hand-carved German cuckoo clock, the exact color and carvings may vary slightly. As with any hand created clock, it is the uniqueness of each piece that makes it a one of a kind heirloom timepiece.
