CUCKOO CLOCKS

The charm of handcrafted work is evident in this clock, which highlights the traditional features of German cuckoo clocks. The face of the clock has many hand-carved details – trees, the water wheel, water bucket, basked of split kindling, the details of the chalet and, of course, the hand-carved hand-painted yellow cuckoo bird. As with all cuckoo clocks, the handcrafted cuckoo bird starts the action on every hour and half hour by calling out the time- one distinct call for each hour of the day and one call on the half hour. When the cuckoo bird has finished his song, the water wheel begins to turn and a musical serenade begins. The music of the clock alternates between the classic German folk tunes Edelweiss or The Happy Wanderer. The young couple turns towards each other and shares two kisses in this beautiful county setting while the waterwheel moves and the music plays.

A hand-carved pendulum hangs below the clock continuously swinging back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. This cuckoo clock is powered by a Regula 30 hour all brass clock movement which is made in the Black Forest of Germany. The clock features the traditional brass pinecone weights hanging beneath the clock on brass chains. The clock is wound by raising the weights beneath the clock on its brass chains. One brass pine cone weight powers the cuckoo and cuckoo call time, one pine cone weight powers the music and dancers while the other pinecone weight powers the time. The clock dial and hands are made of wood with roman numerals marking the time.

However, as with any hand-carved German cuckoo clock, the exact color and carvings may vary slightly. As with any hand created clock, it is the uniqueness of each piece that makes it a one of a kind heirloom timepiece.
