CUCKOO CLOCKS

This heirloom timepiece is a classic scene straight from the Black Forest region of Germany. The chalet style case is intricately carved. Hand-carved and hand-painted trees, flowers, and figerines grace the base of this case. On the chalet balcony, dancers in traditional German costumes wait for the start of the music ready to move with the folk tunes. This clock plays Edelweiss and The Happy Wanderer. A traditional oompah band to the right of the base turns as the music plays. A bell ringer stands near the clock dial. She pulls the bell cord at the top of every hour while the oompah band plays and the dancers twirl to the German folk tunes.
This action starts at the top of the hour with the cuckoo bird popping out of its nest high in the chalet rafters. The cuckoo bird calls out one distinct call for each hour of the day and one call for each half hour. On the hour after the cuckoo bird has called out the hour, the oompah band plays and turns, the music starts, the dancers begin rotating on the balconey and the bell ringer pulls the bell cord.

A hand-carved pendulum hangs below the clock continuously swinging back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. This cuckoo clock is powered by a Regula 30 hour all brass clock movement which is made in the Black Forest of Germany. The clock features the traditional brass pinecone weights hanging beneath the clock on brass chains. The clock is wound by raising the weights beneath the clock on its brass chains. One brass pine cone weight powers the cuckoo and cuckoo call time, one pine cone weight powers the music and moving figures while the other pinecone weight powers the time. The clock dial and hands are made of wood with roman numerals marking the time. The musical and cuckoo bird sounds can be turned on and off by a switch located at the base of the clock.

However, as with any hand-carved German cuckoo clock, the exact color and carvings may vary slightly. As with any hand created clock, it is the uniqueness of each piece that makes it a one of a kind heirloom timepiece.
